Guide to DDR in the UK

What is DDR?
In the UK we have the 'Dancing Stage' series of games. To date, these are:
Arcade: EuroMix 1, EuroMix
2
Playstation: EuroMix, Party
Edition
Playstation 2: MegaMix (release
date 30/5/3)
(Links go to my FAQs for the games, or in the case of MegaMix, to DDR:UK where
all that is known so far may be found in the News section.)
It all started in Japan, where it was known instead as 'Dance Dance Revolution' (DDR). This is also the name they use in America, and sounds cooler than Dancing Stage to, so that's what I refer to it as.
Which version should I get?
Here's a table that will tell you which version you should get, depending on your skill level and system:
1-foot (beginner) | 3-foot (played a little) | 9-foot (played a lot) | |
Playstation 1 | EuroMix | Party Edition | Party Edition |
Playstation 2 | MegaMix | Party Edition | Party Edition |
PC | Stepmania/DWI | Stepmania/DWI | Stepmania/DWI |
Which Dance Mat should I get?
If you have a playstation, you should almost certainly get the new Logic 3 soft mat - available from Amazon, among other places, for about £15. For much more detail on which mat to get, see the Dance Mat Guide.
If you have a PC, it is possible to get dance mats that plug in either to a USB connection or to the printer sockets... but I've never seen any of these for sale. I recommend getting a good playstation mat (see above), and using the 'EMS USB2' convertor from lik-sang.com.
What else do you want to know?
I'll work on this guide and fill in details as I go along - at the moment this is the bare bones. Any questions can be e-mailed to me at ranma-tim@care2.com, but you should first consult the relevant FAQs linked to below.
